Dhaka 4th Feb.,’14. In an article titled, “Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation and plant regeneration of the hardwood tree species Fraxinus profunda (pumpkin ash), ” published in the February issue of Plant Cell Reports, the authors Micah E. Stevens and Paula M. Pijut describe the protocol, they have employed for successful regeneration of the hardwood tree species Fraxinus profunda. The authors usedmature hypocotyls as the initial explants andAgrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated genetic transformation system. Worthy of mention in this context is the working out of the transformation protocol on a priority basis in order to combat the highly aggressive,non-native emerald ash borer (EAB), which has the potential to eliminate native Fraxinus species from the natural landscape.
