GNOBB like to express their heartiest congratulations to Ms Rokeya Begum at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka for successfully completing her Ph.D. GNOBB also congratulate her
supervisor, Prof. Zeba I. Seraj and co-supervisor Dr. Jesmin at the Department of Genetic Engineering, DU. In BD to carry out research leading to Ph.D. is extremely difficult, particularly in subjects related to molecular biology because of constraints of facilities. The title of Rokey’s thesis is: Sequence variation in specific genes among modern rice varieties, landraces and farmer-selected variants. The fact that she carried out her intensive research on the variant rice discovered by the farmer, Haripada Kapali has made her work all the more interesting. Rokeya succeeded in making the alignment of the waxy gene sequences (SNPs) derived from local and various rice varieties of the world. Furthermore, the contribution made by the well known geneticist Dr. Abed Chaudhury at CSIRO, Canberra deserves special mention. He not only provided the material i.e., rice accessions used in the present study and but also encouraged the researchers through the entire period of investigation.
The abstract is available by clicking here. GNOBB wishes her a brilliant academic life.
