Dhaka 29th September, 2013. On the GNOBB website there was a recent news item about the award of PEER (Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research) science grant funded by USAID and NSF Grant to Professor Zeba I. Seraj and her collaborative partner, Dr. Thomas Juenger at the Department of MCDB, U T Austin to work on a project entitled, “Validation of salt tolerance determinants in rice (Oryza sativa L. indica) landrace Horkuch and its segregating population by 2b-RAD sequencing and RNA-seq analysis under stress”
Shortly Prof. Seraj will be on her way to attend an Asia Regional PEER Science Participants’ Conference to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 30 September through 4 October 2013. The conference is aimed at promoting networking among current and new PEER Science PIs based in Asia, so they can build productive linkages not only with their research colleagues but also with representatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). In addition, the conference shall promote capacity building by providing training in various non-research skills such as writing proposals, identifying and approaching potential funders, preparing and presenting research results to both technical and non-technical audiences, and reaching out to government agencies and non-governmental organizations to provide input on science-related policy issues. The conference will be attended by 18 PIs from the current year’s recipients and 22 PIs from the last year.
