Second International South Asian Biotechnology Conference

The Second International South Asian Biotechnology Conference is scheduled to be held at the Senate Bhaban, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh from February 05-06, 2016. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka is organizing this event in collaboration with South Asian University, New Delhi, India.
To reach the goal of sustainability biotechnology could take an important place among the broad range of technologies, particularly in the fields of food production, renewable raw materials and energy, pollution prevention, and bio-remediation. Yet, technical and economic problems still need to be solved. In some cases, the environmental impact of biotechnological applications has been misjudged and in other cases, expectations cannot yet be matched. The theme of the forthcoming event is “Biotechnology for Sustainable Development”.
Such a conference will generate opportunities of exchanging ideas and views among the faculties, postdoctoral, PhD and graduate students from different countries within the SAARC region. Thus it will create a platform for the intellectuals and the general public on how biotechnology could play a major role in achieving sustainable development. Like the 1st International conference held in Delhi, India, the second one will also bring the researchers close to each other to have information about the nature of the research and academic activities in other neighboring SAARC countries that will also encourage cooperation and collaborations among these countries.
Bangladesh has achieved significant strides in human and social development since independence, including progress in gender equality, universal primary education, food production, health and population control. The University of Dhaka since its establishment in 1921 has a lot of contribution in every aspect of the country. The Department of Biochemistry was established in 1957. It was grown to be one of the largest and most successful departments in the subcontinent with a wide range of research interests and a commitment to excellent teaching. The department is hopeful that such conference will generate new ideas in the field of biotechnology which will help us overcome problems we are facing in present days and will face in future.
