While paying a great tribute to Professor Maqsudul Alom, Prothom Alo (প্রথম আলো) has brought to light an interesting piece of news that the Kiwi Fruit Industry in New Zealand has approached the pioneer genome scientist to come to their rescue in containing a deadly disease called psa (Pseudomonas syringae pv actinidiae) that affect Kiwifruit, causing a severe loss to the popular fruit.
Being a great patriot with the country’s interest topmost in his heart, Professor Alam has responded to their request on condition that the patent right of this finding will remain with Bangladeshi genome scientists. So long the East has looked to the West for the solution of their pressing problems and now the tide has turned in an opposite direction; now the West is seeking help of the East.
