The 12th ISBGMO was held successfully Sept. 17-20, ’12 at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, St. Louis, Missouri. The Center was established with a view to improving the Human Condition through Plant Science. The Symposium organized the following 13 sections:

• New approaches in genetic engineering,
•  Genetically engineered animals and insects,
• Biotech and climatic change,
• Biotech for developing countries;
•  Transferring data for risk assessment across environments;
•  GE crops and agriculture sustainability;
• Post market monitoring;
• Defining protection goals for risk assessment;
• Defining the receiving environment;
• Understanding environmental fate;
• Key discussions under Cartagena protocol on biosafety;
• Effective capacity building for biotech regulation and
• others

Bangladesh was represented at the Symposium by Prof. M. Imdadul Hoque, Country Director SABP, Prof. Zeba I. Seraj, Dept. Biochemistry & Mol. Biol.  Dhaka University and Dr. Khalequzzaman Chowdhury, Crop Director BARC.
