Prof Tofazzal Islam works on wheat blast. One of his work was published in BMC journal in 2016 in which he reported lineage of Bangladeshi wheat blast to south american one. Prof Islam was elected as the fellow of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences in 2016 (https://bmcbiol.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12915-016-0309-7). In 2011 he got Bangladesh academy of sciences gold medal from the prime minister of Government of the Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh,He also acihieved the commonwealth innovation award in 2019, IDB innovation award in 2018 , UGC awards and many more.
